Decisions stick because the people who need to carry them out and are impacted have a sense of ownership. The best way to get ownership is to actively involve stakeholders in the process, not just ‘consult’ or brief them, by having them contribute to the design, find,develop and evaluate options.

Key takeaway: For a big decision you are facing, write down the stakeholders – and think broadly, not just the obvious ones. Look at your decision process and see how those stakeholders could play an active part. A great idea is to pick one or two and ask them how they see they could participate.
